     Richard Tarrant, Jr., UVM '90

It didn’t take long after graduation for Richard Tarrant, Jr. to decide he was going to start and run his own business, and he did – twice. He and his brothers knew the internet held tremendous opportunity for business. The key was to find a niche that could be marketable and could grow. They found this niche in on-line grocery shopping and launched Mywebgrocer, an internet software company now providing services to over 90 retail grocery chains, and located it right here in Vermont.

MyWebGrocer.com

Type of company: MyWebGrocer provides eCommerce and eMarketing solutions to the grocery and consumer packaged goods industries. Services include website design, specialty modules for websites, hosting, email solutions and consulting services.

Benefits of doing business in Vermont: Originally founded in New York, Tarrant moved operations and began hiring in Vermont.   Locating his business in Vermont allowed him to tap into a network of trusted contacts that could quickly get the business running.   Now that the business is growing, he appreciates the access to young talent from Vermont’s many colleges.

Living in Vermont: As a native Vermonter, Tarrant understands the value of growing up in Vermont and wanted the same experience for his own family.  He cites family and deep roots as a key reason for being back in Vermont.  Being close to family is also what he loves most about living here.
