     Ted Adler, Middlebury College '99.5

When the nature of your business allows you to be anywhere, Vermont was the first choice for Ted Adler, Middlebury ’99.5.  Adler located Union Street Media – a web development company that had origins in a Forest dorm room - within walking distance of Lake Champlain and the talent pool he needed to grow and be successful.

Union Street Media

Year started: 1999

Size: 20 employees (more than 50% are alumni of a Vermont college)

Type of Company: Union Street Media provides custom website design and development, internet marketing and support to real estate, hospitality, education and non-profit organizations.

Benefits of doing business in Vermont: Adler appreciates the remarkable access to resources that being in Vermont offers.  Originally drawn to Vermont for its recreational resources, Adler now benefits from resources important to growing his business – particularly a talented workforce and the ability to talk directly with government and community leaders.

He also sites a collaborative business community as a unique attribute to Vermont.    Networking and sharing business ideas are common encounters here, not as easily achieved in other places.

Living in Vermont: Adler takes advantage of being in Vermont whenever he can.  As an advocate for the state he now calls home, he often brags about his sunset hikes to the top of Camel’s Hump after a day at work.  He calls this an “I live here moment,” the ability to move effortlessly from working to playing – whether he is hiking, skiing, or simply enjoying the sunset from his front porch.
