King Arthur Flour

King Arthur Flour must be doing something right. Producing consistently high quality flour since 1790 is no easy task, and when King Arthur Flour says "we are the business" they mean it. The company is 100% employee owned by its 200 employees.

Begun in Boston in 1790 and now based in Norwich, King Arthur Flour is America's oldest flour company with a regional brand to a company known throughout the nation not only for its high-quality flours but for their passion in sharing the joy of baking.

In 1990 five employees in Norwich ran a small mail-order business that has grown from a family-owned operation for five generations to its present employee-ownership structure.

King Arthur Flour is the parent company of The Baker's Catalogue, which offers more than 1,000 professional-grade baking tools and ingredients through its catalogue, online at www.bakerscatalogue.com.

The Baker's Store in Norwich has published four cookbooks - King Arthur Flour Whole Grain Baking, due out Fall 2006, The King Arthur Flour Cookie Companion, The King Arthur Flour Baker's Companion, named the 2004 KitchenAid Cookbook of the Year by the James Beard Foundation, and The King Arthur Flour 200th Anniversary Cookbook - as well as The Baking Sheet, a bi-monthly baking newsletter.

Customer reaction comes frequently and passionately. "On May 18th, I purchased my 500th, 5lb. bag of King Arthur Bread Flour!," says Bob Burke of Sun City Center, Florida.
"The checkout clerk at our local Publix market was as excited as I, and she ran a separate receipt through her register."

And from Arlene Osgood of Douglas, Arizona, "I just wanted to let you know that you have probably the finest flour on the market. I have been using your flour for the past few years and every year I make bread and enter it in the baking division of the county fair here in Douglas, Arizona. Over the past fours years I have won 7 Blue Ribbons and one 3rd Place Ribbon for my entries. I attribute most of my success to your flour."

The company offers educational opportunities for bakers of all levels through its Baking Education Center in Norwich and around the country through its National Baking Class program. The Life Skills Bread Baking Program targets middle schools, and web surfers can access educational information online at www.kingarthurflour.com . Through their products, The Baker's Catalogue, publications and educational programs, King Arthur Flour continues to strive toward its mission: To be a creative and profitable company that's a product, information, and educational resource for, and inspiration to, bakers worldwide.
