“I had been entrenched in the corporate world, but when I sat down with Steve and started talking about where he wanted to go, it was clear that wherever it was going was up.”
When he was serving in Afghanistan, in a small outpost east of Bagram Airfield, Vermont soldier Steve Gagner would often come under sporadic and usually inaccurate rocket fire from Taliban troops.
Other times were quiet, even monotonous, and during those lulls, Gagner began to sketch out a plan to return to Vermont and begin a craft brewery. Five years after his return, with his sister Andrea joining as CEO, these siblings have built a business taking in a reported $2.5 million in annual sales.
With help at critical times along the way from Vermont’s tight-knit business community, they have also contributed to the revitalization of downtown St. Albans, and earned respect for their numerous charitable works, several of which focus on veterans.
